About the Department 

The Department of Commerce was established in the year 2000 with a mission to ensure 100 % employment in the field of commerce and finance with the practical knowledge of Accountancy, Finance, Business Administration, Banking & Business Economics, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Retail Management, Family Business & Entrepreneurship etc. Commerce department play a vital role in this competitive world, it has dynamic opportunities ever. To grab the opportunities in specialized field, the value addition courses like B.Com (CA), B.Com (IT), B.Com (finance), B.Com(PA) was established. Department train the students globally competitive by providing the quality education, training, workshop on recent trends in commerce and management skills to face the challenges of the business world to meet industry expectations. The department conducts bridge courses at the entry level for students to get familiar with the basics of commerce and accounting as well as to fill the gap between education at school and college level. It offers certificate course on Accounting Softwares to gain the computerized accounting knowledge. The students are motivated to pursue professional courses (CA, CMA & ACS) and the online courses in various portals like SWAYAM and NPTEL for securing additional qualifications in their respective domain. The Department ensures commitment, Compassion and conscience graduates with skilled manpower and excellent entrepreneur skills. Department  provides an enabling environment to help its students stand out both academically and in shaping them to an overall balanced personality both in terms of the college’s vision and today’s competitive environment.

Welcome to the Department of Commerce of SMS College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, which has a unique practice of academic and career enrichment activities to students. The teaching learning pedagogic approach of the department ensures student centric method through experiential and participative learning process with well qualified and experienced faculty members. 

To meet the requirement of the industry in National and International level, the department has arranged curricular, co-curricular and extra – curricular activities through the student association ‘CAFSA’ (Commerce Management Association for Students Achievement). The department arranges hands on training, workshop, Internship training, Project Work, Industrial Visit, etc., to make the students to gain practical exposure of the Industry.

To make the students expertise in core fields, more number of webinars and expert lectures has been arranged, as a supplement to the theoretical knowledge. Students are encouraged to be members in Centers and Clubs of the College and are motivated to actively to actively participate and expertise their field of interest.
